Intense Pulsed Light is a light-based skincare treatment that treats a variety of skin conditions and concerns.
Here at Genesis we most commonly treat skin discolorations and uneven pigmentation with IPL. This treatment works by targeting the melanocytes or the pigment in the skin, when the pigment is hit with the light, it is absorbed. Those cells are then damaged and the body naturally breaks them down, carries them away and the spot that was once there will either completely be shed off or significantly fade in appearance.
Your aesthetician will first cleanse the area that’s being treated. You will be required to wear dark glasses for the duration of the treatment to protect your eyes. Your aesthetician will then apply a thin layer of cool gel to the skin, perform the treatment with the hand piece, and apply after care. The pulses might sting your skin. Some people liken the feeling to being snapped with a rubber band.
Depending on which part of your body is being treated and how large the area is, the treatment should take 20 to 30 minutes. To get the results you want, you may need to have three to six treatments. Those treatments should be spaced about one month apart to let your skin heal between treatments.
