What Are Chemical Peels?

Using a chemical solution, chemical peels remove layers of your skin to bring out your natural beauty. Our skin can experience a lot of wear and tear over the years, especially your face. The environment, sun, dirt, cosmetics, and facial expressions all contribute to the damage that becomes visible on the outer layer. The result is a dull, unhealthy appearance in need of skin rejuvenation.

Let the experts at Genesis Med Spa help you find the chemical peel treatment that’s right for you. With a variety of options, our team will work one-on-one with you to meet your individual beauty needs.

During your consultation, one of our experienced estheticians will help you choose the correct peel for your skin type and cosmetic needs. Chemical peels vary from very light to medium depth, so selecting the appropriate intensity is very important.

To begin, your Genesis Med Spa provider will have you lie face-up to establish a smooth surface for application. The entire process usually takes under an hour to complete, and your provider will typically stay in the room to ensure there are no adverse reactions as it dries

Once the peel is applied and begins drying, you may feel a burning or tingling sensation due to its high acidic chemical composition. The amount of burning or tingling will vary based on the type of chemical peel you are receiving and will differ case to case.

Your skin might be more sensitive than another person getting the same peel. However, even those with sensitive skin can find a suitable chemical peel.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

A chemical peel treatment typically involves the application of a solution to the skin that will remove dead skin cells, which allows the next layer of skin to develop and replace the old layer. The result is tightened, radiant skin with reduced wrinkles. Based upon the level of peel and condition of your skin, the downtime may vary from overnight to one week. Your skin may appear dry, flaky and red. We will discuss how chemical peels may work alone or in conjunction with adjunct therapies to improve the health and look of your skin.

Following your treatment, your skin will peel for 3–10 Days. The type and depth of the solution will dictate how long the skin will peel. Please note, you will not see immediate peeling. You will begin to notice peeling on or around the third day after your treatment.

We recommend the use of a gentle cleanser and a hydrating serum or gel, like one that contains hyaluronic acid or ceramides to help soothe the skin in the days following a chemical peel. You should always use SPF on a daily basis – but even more so following a peel treatment. The chemical peel is used to accelerate the exfoliation of dead skin cells to reveal fresh, new skin. The biggest risk during this process is sun exposure. Genesis recommends using a high, broad-spectrum SPF to keep the skin safe during the delicate time following the procedure.
